Easy DIY Guide to Fix a Starter Motor in Maruti Swift

Imagine this—you’re in a hurry, you turn the key, but your Swift doesn’t start. It’s not the battery, it’s not the fuel. So, what’s the problem? Often, the issue is a faulty starter motor. The good news is, you don’t need to rush to a workshop right away. You can fix it yourself at home with some basic tools and the right part.
At Beekay, we help Swift owners with genuine parts and simple tips to fix common car problems. As Lucknow’s top distributor of Maruti Suzuki Genuine Parts and Accessories (MSGPA), we’ve been trusted for over 30 years. Remember—“Genuine Hai To Safe Hai.”
What is a Starter Motor?
A starter motor is what makes your engine start when you turn the key or press the start button. It takes power from the battery and turns the engine. If the starter motor stops working, your car won’t start.
Common signs of a faulty starter motor:
-
You hear a clicking sound but the car doesn’t start.
-
Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn’t.
-
No sound or movement when you try to start.
-
You smell something burning near the engine.
Things You Need
Get these tools and items before you start:
-
Wrenches and screwdrivers
-
Jack and wheel stoppers
-
Safety gloves and glasses
-
A new starter motor (only buy MSGPA—Maruti Genuine Parts)
-
Multimeter (to check electricity)
-
Battery cleaner (optional)
You can buy the original starter motor from any Beekay outlet in Lucknow. Beekay only sells genuine parts that fit perfectly and last long.
Step-by-Step Fix
Step 1: Safety First
Park your car on flat ground. Pull the handbrake. Then, open the bonnet and remove the battery’s negative (black) wire.
Step 2: Find the Starter Motor
It’s usually at the bottom of the engine, near the gearbox. You might need to remove a few parts like the air filter to see it clearly.
Step 3: Remove Wires
Disconnect the wires connected to the starter motor. Use a multimeter to be sure there is no power left in them.
Step 4: Unscrew the Starter
Use a wrench to open the bolts holding the starter motor. Be careful—it may be heavy and in a tight spot.
Step 5: Compare Parts
Take the old starter out and match it with the new one. Check that the size, shape, and wire points are the same.
Step 6: Install the New Starter
Fit the new motor and tighten the bolts. Connect the wires to the correct places.
Step 7: Reconnect Battery and Test
Connect the battery again. Try to start the car. If everything is done right, your Swift will roar to life.

When You Shouldn’t Do It Yourself
